As a mentee organisation in the ASAP project, which, itself, is built on the notions of cooperation, partnership and honest exchange, HU NOC did not have any ample experience in sustainability before joining the project. Therefore, next to being in regular contact with their Finnish NOC mentor and other project partners, the NOC has started looking into outreach, information and cooperation possibilities at national and international level beyond the project partnership to go the extra mile.

One example for all is the recently concluded cooperation agreement with the Organising Committee of the 2022 European Men's Handball Championship (co-hosted by Hungary ans Slovakia). The subject of the agreement is the „Watch Games, Do More” campaign, which aims at making the event more sustainable; now also thanks to the HU NOC and its contribution in the form of:

  • facilitating contact with sport and physical education faculties and sports high schools to involve their students and staff as participants;
  • actively taking part in the online lead-up campaign and in the mentoring of the participants (university and high school teams);
  • taking part in the jury of the final competition (secretary general of HU NOC);
  • and sharing good practice examples and inspirational documents, including ASAP project outputs.

Overall, the planned activities promise to bring benefits not only to the two organisations, but - perhaps even more importantly - to all those involved in the event and the campaign, which only confirms the underling rationale of sustainable development: "A successful development agenda requires inclusive partnerships — at the global, regional, national and local levels — built upon principles and values, and upon a shared vision and shared goals placing people and the planet at the centre.” (SDG 17 Partnership for the Goals)
